It was whisper-quiet in the Space Room on Wednesday for our “I Love the Library” theme. Alright, maybe not that quiet — or quiet at all — but it was a bar full of nerds who love their book learning.

Eight teams in all were in the house to battle for the big pot. It was nice to have newbies like Plotnick there to spice things up, and See You Leder Hosen returned for another week of quiz awesomeness. Good on ya!

The Challenge Round was full up with regulars (Those Meddling Kids), regulars-in-the-making (Thistle And Shamrock), and now-and-again-players (Schadenfreude) making the finals a toss up. But in the end it was Those Meddling Kids, perhaps powered by an imported librarian, who took home the top prize. Let’s see what that does to the standings… the Cupcakes, who came out to an early lead this season have slipped these last two weeks, opening up a gap for Those Meddling Kids. I’ll be honest… I don’t even know what’s going on in that picture. But I’m just going to leave it there, and let it burn into your computer monitor.

WOAH NELLY, did we have another packed house of awesome quizzers last night at the Hottest Quiz on Hawthorne. We had asses in every chair, and plates on every table, bringing in extras (tables, not asses) to accommodate all the great teams we had last night.

SIX teams made it into the Challenge Round, with Those Meddling Kids leading the way through four rounds. Thistle and Shamrock and the Shitty Beetles made their way to the quiz this week, busting into the challenge round in their usual impressive fashion. They were there to do battle with reigning champs House of no Future, but two new teams cracked the top spots too, with Xerces and See You Leder Hosen also making the finals.

In the end though, “Those Meddling Kids” won the night, retaking first place in the Space Room Saucer, in the process. As for Sister Act 2: Electric Boogaloo — you’ll have to come down and play the best Wednesday Night quiz in town, if you want to be a part of that inside joke. You won’t regret it!

It’s always great when we get a question about crazy political corruption at pub quiz, because you never know what kind of answer the crowd will give you. Did Barry get busted with drugs? Yup. Cocaine, specifically? Yup. Crack cocaine, actually? Uhuh. And were there prostitutes involved? YOU BETCHA!

Sadly, our night at Hawthorne’s hottest trivia night weren’t nearly as exciting (or illicit!) but we still had a great time. We decided to up the ante for a winner-takes-all night, letting all five teams in the Challenge Round. That makes for some interesting results, but in the end it was Team Cupcake who beat out the pack.

The Cupcakes are hungry for their first ever Space Room Saucer championship. Can they do it? Well, we’ve got about 10 weeks to go to see. But so far, they are putting up a good fight.

On one hand, I had a reason for picking this blog title — the Diva did play a big part in last night’s Space Room quiz — but on the other hand, once I found the above photo, I realized that ask the Internet, and ye shall receive. In fact, the site that this came from has all sorts of photos of what Paula would look like doing different things. The Internet is a terrifying place, friends.

But the Space Room, was downright COZY last night, as we overflowed with quizzers and packed the room like it hasn’t been in AGES. It was great to have the crowd back on Hawthorne and the room was downright electric. A few people bailed at the last minute, but otherwise we would have had well over 50 quizzers, and as a result, five teams in the Challenge Round. But the winners on the night were content with the fewer teams, because that means the top pot was $95, a nice little take for House of No Future, who also claimed the Space Room Saucer Championship for this season with the win. The closest team to them in the standings, The Cupcakes, stumbled terribly on the night, but are sure to be back next season to get their name on the hardware.

Also back at Space Room were a slew of great teams. Shamrock und Thistle was there for the first time in months, and took third place on the night. Kim and the Jong Ills made an appearance, as did Clarification Please. And long-time quizzers, I Quiz on Your Grave made their first ever Space Room appearance — they promise it won’t be their last.

Why would they return? Well, fantastic food, incredible cocktails and whip-smart competition, that’s why. Come on down to Space Room on Wednesdays and make it your regular quiz venue. I promise you’ll be glad you did…

It’s kind of hard to believe that after roughly 12,434 quizzes I’ve run, this is the first time that we’ve ever asked a question about Mommy Dearest. I mean, that movie is SO FUNNY. We could ask about it on Comedy-themed quizzes, Mother’s Day-themed quizzes, and Dry Cleaning-themed quizzes. The questions practically write themselves. Alright, maybe just one question. Well, that’s not the Paul I was talking about. My Paul, if I can even call him mine, came to quiz at Space Room on Wednesday, and man was he an a-hole.

I kid… actually, he and his crew were a delightful bunch! They were there for a birthday party, and man did they have a raucous time toasting their pal. And I only got one of their names (Paul) so of course I started picking on the poor fella. And I might’ve been a little relentless (not as relentless as I was about Philly smelling like… um… Tastycakes), but Paul was a great sport. The guy even came up to me afterwards and told me it was the most fun he had in ages. (Poor guy. He ought to get out more.)

We had a great crowd in for an all-or-nothing game, too. It was a fierce quiz because everyone wanted that money. But in the end, Clarification Please (or whatever their name was this week) took home all the cash–$78 in all!

Hopefully Paul and company will come back again next week, because they were a good crew. Not that smart, but hey, no one’s perfect. Not even Paul.

I heard it’s out there on the internet, and not very hard to find. I haven’t gone looking for it yet though. I imagine the above picture is a still from it (well, an animated still). But that’s not Kim Kardashian–that’s her sister Jan, or Wednesday, or uh… Not-Kim.

I ask the question because it came up last night at our racous quiz in Vancouver. A couple weeks back, the guys who run the bar tipped me a (gently used) Shake Weight, and I have started to develop some ideas on what to do with it. NO–NOT THAT! I’m going to turn it into a trophy for another quiz competition. Oh yeah, it’s going to be epic, as usual. So stay tuned.

But last night we covered all things computer-oriented at the quiz. Nerds were out in full force, anwering qustions about Intel, and Apple, and even Radio Shack. It was dork-tastic. Sadly, only one team could win (even though there were so many geeks in attendence). The victor: The Stumbling Drunks! They beat out a field of three other teams in the challenge round to take home the top prize.
