Mad Men was the theme tonight. So I deducted points from every player that wasn’t smoking a cigarette at all times. That isn’t true. But sweet jebus, Season 8 of Mad Men is going to be set in a lung cancer ward, I’m certain. Team Schadendfreude was determined to win back their championship belt tonight, and they did so by by answering questions about the late Steve Jobs (God rest his iSoul), James Joyce as a young man, Tobias Funke and the best movie in the history of mankind: (like I have to tell you) Big Trouble in Little China.

It was a fun night at The Over and Out, and in the background the Tigers were beating the Yankees, meaning neither Boston or New York will be in the ALCS, which is fantastic–unless you think it isn’t, in which case you are wrong. Good beer. Good food. Good times. Come join us next Thursday and check out the Family Guy pinball machine.

It was a fun quiz as usual, if a little bittersweet, at The Guild on Tuesday night. Though we hope to be back soon, it will be the last quiz at The Guild for at least a little while. There is still plenty of quiz fun to be had on Tuesday nights (see our schedule), as well as a new quiz beginning this Thursday with my-wildly-handsome-self at the stylish and fun Over and Out on 81st and Stark. There is also still plenty of fantastic local beer to be had at The Guild.

Myths and Legends was the name of the game, and a challenging game it proved to be. If you know which vicious wolf the gods tied down with magic ribbon, or what appendage Xiezhi used to determine right or wrong, you would have done quite well. The quizzers at The Guild did well themselves, identifying the best Huey Lewis and the News song to ax-murder to, and what alien bastard dumped our ancestors into the volcanoes of Hawaii.

The night belonged to Audacity of Hops, who went into the final round with the lead and was the only team to answer the Mesoamerican final round question correctly. Congrats to Audacity of Hops. We hope to see them elsewhere soon.

Wow! We had a record night at The Guild last night. The place was packed with teams even sitting upstairs. The quiz was extremely close and we had a tie for first place after Bingo between the Snorkles and the Naughty List. Round two was just as close with BAMFS and The Late Buzzers earning the most points. In the end though, it was The Naughty List that came out victorious by being the only team to correctly answer the final challenge question. We hope to see you all again next week. Happy Quizzing!

Ahoy there trivareeeenoooos,

If you weren’t at The Guild last night then you were certainly missing out on amazing fun. With 21 players, we had almost a full house, coulda used a few more teams to make the stakes amazingly high though. Remember to bring your friends. Everyone who plays weekly ups their chances of winning Timbers tickets. The raffle is at the end of the month, so if you’ve been coming to trivia regularly and putting your ticket in, your chances of winning Timbers tickets for a game is Seattle are great.

Another great incentive to play: It’s free! Why not have a fun quiz, with a unique theme every night and the chance to either win a 25 dollar gift certificate to The Guild (if you’re first) or a 15 (if your second)? WIN WIN!!

I enjoyed hearing everyones idea of a perfect game show. I was really intrigued by the game where a group team has to guess whether the person in the spotlight is happy or not. Perhaps subtle clues give it away, or perhaps they are donning a mask of sadness when inside is skittle and lolipops.

Who knew Stallone directed this classic? Well, the teams who did last night at Thirsty Lion Wa Sq were able to exploit this bit of knowledge into awesome gift certificates and other bar swag as we had our best night ever with 32 quizzers. The nights big winners were team Samcro Prospects yet they left before I could even say good job, so be it. Not to be outdone though was team Charlie who is posted in tonights picture. They ended up with a similar amount of prizes. Heck, they could argue that they won anyways. See you all next week.

Hey Everyone Who plays and Loves Trivia,

I was a little disappointed that there wasn’t any Kwyjibo questions last night. Remember when the Simpson’s are playing Scrabble and Bart uses all his letters to get the fifty point bonus. What’s a Kwyjibo? A Big, Dumb, balding, North American ape with no chin (that has a short temper). But Homer picked up on the illusion and “Why YOU LITTLE”. Ah yes. The Simpsons. I was probably four when that came out.

Last night was a BLAST at The Guild. Wonderful staff, great eats. Everyone who played the free game got entered in a raffle to win Portland Timbers Tickets. So the drawing is in June, repeat players up there chances of winning.

Tight game last night, and a wonderful quiz. GSA managed to sneak into second place. Here they are.

Wednesday night was swell, our theme was May and Moms. Local favorite Guy Behind the guy behind the guy swept in and took home round one, and Round 2 went to some newcomers known as Eric and Cici.

We’ll miss you, Lock and Keel, with your long free happy hours and pitchers of beer giveaways, but we’ll be back soon. And we’ll be married more than before. Until then…

EXTRA! EXTRA! BRAND NEW FORMAT!

So last night, the Thirsty Lion Washington Square tried out a brand new way of doing pub quiz and it went pretty flipping well, if I do say so myself. The new way of doing things was as follows:

There were six rounds; each round its own game; but staying for all six puts you in the running for a sweet bar prize. Free to play, you can come and go per round, as each round has an individual winner. Pretty crazy fun.

so last night, most of the teams played all six, but even those who played a few rounds walked away with some nifty “Something Borrowed” shwag- mirrors, movie passes, novels, awesomeness.

I especially heart the boys from Team Punt who just so desperately wanted some hand mirrors. I could tell they were really fighting for those…so it warmed my heart to be able to give them.

Team awesome possum, those clever gals in the back, walked away with some movie passes as well as a copy of the novel, and also, they seemed to be enjoying a delicious meal. They even gave me a fry, they were so sweet….

The Beerwhores were out in full splendor, looking lovely on such a nice evening. They were the closest guess for the Pub Question; a question thought up by the crew at the Thirsty Lion, and asked by moi. Their prize? a $20 giftcard! Amazing!

Team craptosaurus, those lovelies, came in second over-all six rounds, with two wins. And Thirsty Lion was so kind as to provide pint glasses as prizes, and let me just say that their faces lit up when they found out that was the prize. Which in turn made my face light up. Just a whole lot of face lighting up was happening. Love it.

Who had the most wins, you may ask? Well, it was a new team to the Thirsty Lion- who scored three individual wins, as well as walking away with the over-all first place status- Her First Mistake! Yay! They got a $30 giftcard for their troubles! Pretty sweet, I say…

All-in-all a pretty good first shot at the new format. Stay tuned for more awesomeness!

Big Momma’s Public House

Hey Hey There Triverinos,

it was a warm night, outside and inside The Guild Public House. Big Time Sports’ big time stuff is going on now. Seasons are beginning and ending. Timbers game was on last night. But that’s no excuse to miss PubQuiz. Especially at The Guild, where every time you play PubQuiz, you get entered into a raffle to win Timbers tickets in Seattle. How cool is that? And if you’re jonsing to see the game, we gotta big screen, they can play the game right above my head!

Last night was a blast. Great staff, great food, right there on E. Burnside, center of everything. Kitty Korner Hippo Hardware. Below Noble Rot. Right Across from Union Jacks. Center of cool, right there.

Last night, everyone was entered in the raffle to win Timbers Tickets. And that costs nothing. Free game to play, and the winner took home a handsome 25$ Gift Certificate to The Guild. Second place, 15. Congrats Campaigners Anonymous. Here’s the Happy team with 25.
