We were singing this tune all night here at Sonny’s in Springfield. Yes it seems Neil Diamond is a popular guy. The quiz went great as the vibe was chillingly gothy. It was a close match throughout the quiz. In the end it was the Frontal Lobes who cashed in with the big prize. Thanks everyone for coming out to support PQU! See you all next week.

Great night here at Old Chicago that could have been an absolute disaster. When the QM”s cpu crashes right before a quiz you know it’s going to be an interesting night. We had a team of regulars that I broke up into two teams and also a brand new team that made their presence known throughout the evening. We had no audio clips so I had to make up a few questions on the fly. Still, as always OC hooks up quizzers with awesome prizes: T-shirts, mugs, & fat gift certificates. In the end, it was the new team who walked away with the big prize. Great job team Bantas aka Couple team. We hope we now have quizzers for life.

Duke’s has arrived

We had a great inaugarable night here at Duke’s on Tuesday. Many new teams played their first quiz and they kicked some ass. It was team Brewski that ended up kicking the most ass and were crowned champions of the evening. An honorable mention goes to Jill and her dad for making it a fun competitive quiz. So come on out to Duke’s next Tues. It seems the nachos are pretty good since I saw plates of them being consumed all night. Ummm nachos. Another plus about Duke’s, they must have the best looking wait staff in PDX. Oh my, did I say that? See ya next week.

Yes, her and Mr. Costello are quite good drinkin buds. This was certainly a shock to hear since I never new she had any musical talents. Nevertheless, the St. Paddy’s themed quiz was a triumphant success here at Hal’s. Many new teams and a few familiar faces put their wits against each others and went at it at full gusto. It was a very close race throughout the quiz and it came down to the final question. When the dust settled, it was Team Brain that ended up with the loot. Thank you all for coming out. Me of course, cuz I get the wonderful opportunity to host the most laidback quiz in the PDX metro. Truth be told, I couldn’t have done it without our greenest QM in training, Carlson. Be sure to check him out as he’s sure to bring Pub Quiz joy to all loyal quizzers.

The Big Apple edged out Team Bogey’s and humbly sauntered away, almost expecting to have bragging rights as experts of Oscar Trivia. Big A

Yet again we had another record crowd for Maxwell’s last night. Team Awesome came back at the very end to beat out “Wide receiver Tight End” It was a very fun laid back evening for the most part. Quizmaster Wendy had a guest appearance calling out round 2. I hope everyone enjoyed my referee impersonations for the handout. No pic this week, but I’m sure Wendy will make up for it next week. Hope to see you all there again.

Maxwell’s was a blast last nite. Our island radio was blasting out silent yet kick-ass tunes. With only 4 teams playing, I allowed all four to go into the final challenge round. For most of the quiz, last weeks winner Digital Insertion looked poised to capture another win, but sound strategy in the final round by Team Awesome allowed them to capture victory from the jaws of defeat. Keep it up Maxwell’s!!!!

The hero’s came out for Wed quiz out here at Maxwell’s. We had our best night so far with the winner being One Heroic Guy. Yes, one dude all by his lonesome. The sad thing was that he left so quickly after he received his winnings that I was unable to get his pic. Sooo, this is why second placed Digital Insertion is featured in the pic. Don’t forget, we have two for one entree’s for all quizzers next week at Maxwells. See yaw there.

Cheezin it up on the Westside

Solid first night out here at Maxwells with five teams battling it out for top prize including a little Jacksonian bonus from the establishment that contributed to the winnings.

As the quiz went along, it became painfully obvious that I had completely f’d up and printed the wrong quiz…yes, it does happen. To make a long story short, I am partially relieved, yet personally embarrassed. Again, I apologize for my shortcomings. Still, in the end, nobody really noticed except for the two teams familiar with our format. (Your subtle boos did not go unnoticed) Suffice it to say, with a little “Quizmastery” thinking, I was able to whip out a somewhat seamless quiz which meant substituting an “On this day” with an “A to Z” using bingo answer sheets, having quizzers add one line to complete the newly improvised A-Z answer sheet.

When the dust settled, it was “Dream Team Maxwells” placing third, which meant twelve extra “Turkish dollars” will be added to next weeks winnings. In second, it was “Team Awesome” who, might I add, was an impressive assortment of random regulars that beat most odds and left with a shit-eating grin as six first time quizzers walked out with way more than they expected. In the end though, it was “Da Bears” who sauntered away with the top prize and all bragging rights that come with it. Congrats to all that came and I hope to see you all there again next week.

The drug quiz was a hit for all. Kinda thought it was funny that many folks wanted bonus points for just mentioning a movie that had drug references in them, but could not tell me any specifics about the movie itself. Nice try. Since we only had four teams playing I allowed all four into the final challenge round. Puff Puff give ended up holding off the other close competitors to secure their forty dollar cash prize. Hmm…I wonder what I could buy for forty dollars.
