Yeah, I said 113 people all playing Pub Quiz!  It was nuts, and I didn’t even print enough answer sheets for the 25 teams we had!  Printing more (thanks to the Thirsty Lion!) got everyone playing, though at a delayed start.  We ended up cutting round 2, to my dismay, but what can ya do?  You guys overwhelmed me with your sheer need for more Seinfeld trivia, and as far as problems go, I’ll take that any day of the week.

Congratulations to first place finishers Cattle Prodigy!  A couple teams scored PERFECTLY on the hour+ video round, and they were one of them.  That boggles my mind – well done guys.  They also took home their gift certificate from Thirsty Lion for winning last month’s Thirsty Lion Standings.  A pretty tidy set of winnings for them.  Setting the bar high indeed!  I think the other quizzers are up to the challenge though, so bring it on!

Apologies to the winning team – I was so crazy-busy by the end of the night I forgot to snap your picture before you left.  You can imagine what they looked like with their almost $200 1st place prize:

We were running a bit behind, so I don’t blame people for vacating ASAP.  Thanks to everyone, by the way, for being as adaptive and flexible as you always are.  The night was fun despite the little hiccups, and that’s because you guys are good people.  I appreciate it, and I’m smiling even now thinking about it.

Congratulations to 2nd place finishers Michelle Obama’s Arms, and a thanks for nabbing another 3 free agent players to help me consolidate teams.  Thanks to all the teams that nabbed people they didn’t know, actually!  It can be awkward, but you guys were in an adventurous spirit!  Shows character, you know.

Huge props to the Thirsty Lion and the live band for working with us on the scheduling, and thanks again to everyone who showed.  I’ll see you guys at the Pub Quiz Tournament on Sept. 18th, so save the date!

Not only did we have 40+ people there for quiz, PLUS people there just for delicious, delicious food, but I had to actually delay the quiz for 15 minutes while I printed out more copies of the answer sheets!  That’s right, I actually had to ask for directions to Kinko’s, since it’s been awhile since I’ve had a printing emergency on the PSU campus.

Luckily I was saved from what would surely have been $9,000 to print out 15 sheets (damn you, Kinko’s), because a generous, and more importantly local, pub quizzer let me use her printer next door.  It was one thing after another when her printer ran out of ink on the 2nd page we printed.  Of course it did =)  Did you know replacing ink catridges on a Mac requires both software and hardware, and about 10 million steps?  It all turned out okay as we kept our cool and used teamwork to overcome the reality-show-like challenge that almost turned into some sort of high-tech scavenger hunt (“Which ink cartridges does it want replaced?”  ”I don’t know!”).  Thanks again Angie!

Congratulations to the winners of the actually really big pot – Number 1 Booth!

There were three ladies on their team, but I believe it was their first pub quiz – they looked at me funny when I asked if they wanted their winner’s picture on the blog.  I think they thought it was my personal, creepy blog.  Which is not this blog, but somewhere else.  This is where I laugh like a weirdo, and make a frowny face for them not wanting to be part of the blog.

In second place came There Is No Darren, Only Zuul!  I probably misspelled something in there again (Darrin?  Zul?) but that’s alright.  It’s forgivable I think.

Third place went to The Elaine Benes Dance Academy, who were strong all night, but bet low hoping for a super-tough final challenge question.  It was a little easier than that (I think) and the other two teams got it right for the cashy-cash.

Overall, a very beautiful night at Schmizza, with a very beautiful packed house.  I’ll be back next week for more!  Hope to see y’all there.

It was a little reunion last night as Natalie guest starred with her longtime team the Sheep Shaggers!  They made it to top 3, bet with their balls, and unfortunately the final challenge question was only known by one person in the room.  So congrats to team Game On! for their first place win!

Second place went to The Beer Whores, who also had a guest star – Crysie’s “sister” was there having fun.  I put it in quotes because I don’t believe anything without proof!  Not since LOST ended the way it did.  I associate that with Crysie and Sarah since they were my LOST watching buddies, even though it’s not fair to them.  Stupid LOST.  I’m still bitter.  :)

That was a fun night!  I’m ready for some serious relaxation with family this weekend.  Sun is shining, and I’m bright-eyed and bushytailed (getting up at at the crack of noon and all) and ready to tackle some yardwork.  Whee?

Thanks again to peeps for dealing with my problem with reading numbers correctly in By the Numbers round 2.  Apparently I’m not just stupid when it comes to math, but when it comes to numbers.  Maybe it wasn’t math at all!  Maybe it’s just numbers that make me go cross-eyed!  Now to find some math with no numbers, and I’ll be set.

We had some really strong trivia stars last night, definitely some serious competition at The Thirsty Lion these days!  Good thing they are all awesome too, or it’d be more cutthroat.  It’s like playing a game of Monopoly, or Risk, and it being civil.  It’s less rare to lose friendships over those games than it is to have a good time, yet with trivia at the Lion, the trivia gurus pull it off in good humor.  Even when they bring in awful, awful found porn.  :)

Good crowd at Parkway Station, despite the 2nd day in a row over 95 degrees.  Sunshine is nice and all, but the heat wave is harsh – thanks again to everyone who showed up for some trivia!  In first place, clawing tooth and nail from basically last place at the end of round 1 – the Dynamic Duo!

They needed amazing scores for round 2, and BOTH handouts to be in contention for the money, and THEN they needed to win the final challenge round for 1st place – all of which they pulled off beautifully.

In second place, having a near perfect On This Day score (11 of 12): Dazed and Confused took the 2nd money spot!  And though The Hot Sheets were in first place all night, they went home without the cashy-cash.  Roller coaster scoreboard last night, it was nuts.

It made for a really fun evening of trivia though, so I welcome any switch-up shenanigans in the future!  We’ll see how it goes next week.  The Bucket o’ Cash is begging to be emptied, so don’t miss out!

On to the quiz!  It was a swelteringly hot 96 degrees outside yesterday.  People braved the Hellish heatwave to do a battle of wits, and I’m glad they did!  It was a really fun night, and we plowed right through the obstacles in our path.  Yes, the very fates themselves tried to slow down our pub quiz, but no!  We would not let them.  And by fates, I mean to say that video equipment is REALLY too complicated to be good.  Therefore, video equipment is evil.  It’s just logical.

Congratulations to the pub team The Thirstiest Lions for taking first place!  Sarah and Liz helped from the bar and the team effort paid off (your infatuation with Brad Pitt finally paid off Liz)!  To be perfectly fair though, who ISN’T infatuated with Brad?  Check out his awesome movie list: True Romance, A River Runs Through It, Interview With the Vampire, Legends of the Fall, Se7en, Twelve Monkeys, The Devil’s Own, Snatch, Fight Club, The Mexican, Spy Game, Ocean’s Eleven, Burn After Reading, Inglourious Basterds.  His best performances in my opinion are in Burn After Reading and Twelve Monkeys.

Anyway, back to the winners!

The room clapped for them too – since they didn’t pay their first place pot carries over into next week!  Thems some happy pub quizzers, lemme tell ya!

In second place Anagram This!  They were also quite happy, since it was enough for BEER for the team.  What else can ya ask for?  Also props to third place – I’m With Stupid.  They were very strong all night and got screwed by the Brad Pitt question.  Strong team though, hope to see them back next week so they get a shot at what is sure to be a big pot!
