Last night at Space Room, we played the classic Oscars audio clip of Jack Palance winning his award, and saying “Billy Crystal… I shit bigger than him.” Ever wonder what Jack Palance eats for breakfast? I’m betting Grape Nuts.
But we had a lot more than Grape Nuts last night — the staff mixes up some excellent specials every week that are on theme. The crowd favorite last night was the “Best Picture” Sangria. Okay… a little loose with the theme, but tasty nonetheless.
We had a whole lot of fun with the quiz, too, electing to play an all-or-nothing night. “Those Meddling Kids” had one three straight weeks prior, so the gauntlet was thrown for a team to beat them — and “Thistle Und Shamrock” picked up that glove with gusto, finally winning the Challenge Round that had eluded them in weeks prior. That puts them as strong contenders for the Saucer Championship. Lets see if they can keep it up!

Each season, on the Solstices and the Equinoxes, Quizmaster JPP’s venues (Shanahan’s Pub and Grill in Vancouver, The Space Room Lounge on Hawthorne, and at The Belmont Inn on Belmont) break into their own in-house competitions, augmenting the weekly Pub Quiz fare with quarterly standings competitions to prove who is the best of the bunch.
The spoils are a mix of gift certificates, treats, and an entire season of tributes paid to you by your peers. The rules are quite simple, and can be found here.
