That is a true fact. Ultimately it doesn’t have any particular relevance to Tuesday night’s Pub Quiz at Biddy McGraw’s, but I thought I’d nevertheless assert my position on the slithery serpents for the record.
In doing a bit of hack-blogging research, I happened upon an interesting little tidbit that I thought I’d share. Take a look at this gorgeous island locale, off the Southern coast of Brazil:
Wrong.
Places like this may look idyllic from afar, but this place is known as ‘Snake Island’, and it’s basically Indiana Jones’ worst nightmare.
There’s only one little species of snake that inhabits the island, but it just happens to be the Golden Lancehead — a variety of the fer-de-lance that’s known as a particularly venomous little bugger that doesn’t play well with others. Since no humans are allowed on the island (there used to be a Lighthouse Keeper, though I wonder what happened to him…?), the slithering little buggers have run amok, and now they’re so concentrated that there’s approximately one snake per square meter, and the whole island’s only about 110 acres!
Not my preferred vacation destination, obviously.
In other non-ophidiophobic news, things are Biddy’s are picking up. Three brand new teams played on Tuesday, and one — Short Round – ended up raking in the first place prize after out-dueling Schadenfreude and The Cult of Kali Ma.
And don’t forget, next week begins the quarterly standings competition at Biddy’s, so you won’t want to miss it!
