After seeing a few Monopoly pieces (with accompanying stories both fascinating, and also obviously fabricated), some playing cards, dice, etc., the bonus point totals for the teams playing at Biddy’s on Tuesday night were staggering. I’d have to go back and check to be sure, but it seemed that almost every single player had Bonus Points racked up before Round 1 even started.
Which is, of course, awesome.
But also, mind you, this week was an easy theme. I think we should issue some sort of challenge to the teams, ’cause it’s on the not-so-easy weeks that I want to see that level of dedication, that level of commitment.
Sure, a few games tokens in your pocket is no skin off your back. Congrats. And that Nintendo themed t-shirt you’ve had since 1989 that you wore all day just so you had it on when you got to PubQuiz? A little better. But that antique manure-stained Polo jersey that you got autographed by some jockey, that still smells a little foul and doesn’t quite fit right… THAT’s some real bonus points.
So, in the end, as an FYI to the teams, bonus points will now be adjusted accordingly. I want to see flair, I want to see originality, and I want to see commitment! I know you’ve got it in you.
Schadenfreude won this week’s Games quiz, by the way. And yes, they had some normal “these-count-as-bonus-but-I-can-sense-your-laziness-and-lack-of-creativity” Bonus Points, but they also brought in some type of hybrid Scrabble game that combines the classic with a little bit of Speed (that card game) and Boggle — and then they all sat and played it for two hours as a team AFTER PubQuiz.
THAT is DEDICATION*.
Next week we’re going all-out Seinfeld — a full team dressed as Jerry, Elaine, George, Kramer, Newman, and then, well, any other character you can think of, will earn some beaucoup bonus points!
See you next Tuesday…

*QuizMaster’s note: My years of training in Psychology have taught me that, while spending hours playing a wholesome board game might be an enjoyable way to spend time, doing so while consuming large amounts of alcoholic beverages might be a sign of binge drinking. To limit our liabilities, PubQuiz does not wish to equate “dedication” with “addiction” — unless that addiction is in fact to playing PubQuiz, in which case I merely offer the following: “Play on, playa. Play on!”
