Glacier Bay
Last week, as you all competed for some weekly PubQuiz glory, I sat poolside atop what is essential a massive floating hotel and casino meandering northbound through the San Juans and up past Vancouver Island, Alaska became my 49th state, as well.
As a bit of an aside, though, after a week with gorgeous weather spent aboard a Norwegian cruiseliner I’m only one state away — Arizona, as it happens — from having visited all 50. Given the current social and political turmoil surrounding the anti-immigration policies of the great lesser State of Arizona, I think I’ll put that one off indefinitely as part of a personal boycott.
Such resolute declarations of personal political wherewithal are, of course, made easier by the fact that I don’t have any vacation time coming in the near future anyway, nor do I have the money to actually take another vacation (ahhh, the beauty of duty-free international-waters liquor sales!), but that’s beside the point.
The Big Blue Watery Road
The one draw back to an incredible vacation week (in addition, of course, to the debt caused by the massive aforementioned liquor expenditure), is that I sadly had to miss all my PubQuiz regulars on Tuesdays at Biddy’s and Thursdays at 21st Ave. Sure, I know, it was probably good for you all to get away from my droll voice, expression-less delivery, and drab fashion sense (and yes, do feel free to disagree in the comments…) but there’s just something about PubQuizzing with you all every week that makes things fun, and keeps things interesting.
This week, for instance, it was when Wendy from Schadenfreude decided it was a good idea to bring to the “Dirty” PubQuiz for Bonus Points a picture of an inflamed, diseased uvula. While that certainly falls more into the “interesting” category than the “fun” category, it’s moments like that that just make me think: “Yes, this is totally how I planned my career to go after law school.” So, thank you.
ANYWAY, in a huge night this week at Biddy’s , the Shook Family All-Stars ended up the victors, taking home a huge 1st place pot!
