Pub Quiz USA

Freedom: $1.05 Cocktails: $2.00! (Belmont Inn)

Fireworks were flying at Belmont Inn’s weekly Thursday Throwdown — and some new blood made its way into the top spots! Our America-themed quiz brought out some of the most star-spangled quizzees Portland has ever seen — it looked like a scene right outta St. Louis down on the South East side…

We hit the fifty-person mark right after the start of round one (fifty players, one for each state — coincidence!?), which means that five teams busted their way into the Challenge Round. But it was ultimately Beige Food and their “America, fuck yeah!” ways that won out on the evening, taking home the big pile of greenbacks that we all know and love. Second place was a new team — and a heck of a crew at that: Crazed Sex Poodle! This three player squad massaged the chakras of some of Pub Quiz’s best. Well played! And then there was Soylent Red, White, and Blue, showing off their patriotism as well as their brains to take home third place on the evening.

Highlights of the night included the lovely Flag of Corporate America that Can You Smell The Stank let me use as a table cloth. There were also cookies galore from the Soylents (were those made of PEOPLE!?). And in the strangest turn of events of some time at Pub Quiz, the No Mouth Monkeys requested “It’s Raining Men” as their fight song. It was really quite odd — I’m not sure of the significance but that’s what they want me to play every week, so I guess I’ll oblige them.

So, until next Thursday, be well, play hard, and try to remember everything you can!
