At the end of each week at Pub Quiz, disappointment reigns supreme for most teams, but for us quizmasters we get bummed about all the great questions that we DIDN’T ask. It wasn’t until I started pulling this blog post together that I remembered Peyton “Cut that Meat” Manning. How did we miss asking a question about this commercial?

Well, on Thursday we probably left it off the menu because everyone had NBA fever. They also had BELMONT STEAK fever, but I’ll get to that in another, separate, SPECIAL blog post. Regardless of the seasonal standings for the Thursday Night Throwdown, we had 16 teams, the largest crowd in about a half a year, competing for one of the biggest pots in months. Perfectly set to the backdrop of the game seven matchup between the Lakers and the Celtics for the NBA Finals.

The “No Mouth Monkeys,” who REALLY needed the win to guarantee a Belmont Steak championship over the two-time returning champs “Beige Food,” broke away from the pack early, and led the entire night long. They were in first place going into the challenge round, ahead of “Soylent Green,” “Team C Average” and “Tom Peterson and Gloria’s Too,” and “Shake Your Bacon Maker.” But for reasons only known to the Monkeys (and they admit that they don’t quite understand it themselves), they wagered ZERO — which means Tom Peterson took home the first place prize, Shake Your Bacon Maker came in second place, and the Monkeys landed squarely in third.

The victory, for Tom Peterson, bookended a surprising season which saw them come from NO WHERE to place second in Quiz Against the Quizmasters, jump out to an early lead in the Belmont Steak Standings, and then finish strong in third place. Congrats Tom Peterson! Beware of these guys, because they are a dangerous Pub Quiz squad! Unfortunately (and amazingly) I can’t find my photo of them. I’ll have to remedy that, for sure.
