Newbies Abound at the Bitter End!

There was something in the air tonight at Bitter End, maybe it was the Timbers Army leaving us in their wake, maybe it was all the fresh new blood, maybe that jerk that was blowing that mother fucking vuvuzela horn (in a suit, with a terrible tan).  No, come to think of it, it was the stench of BURN on the pdx.fm team as Little Nemo smoked their meat.  And they smoked the pdx.am crew even harder.

It was a night full of newbs to be sure.  I hosted a lot of new people that had never quizzed before, a lot of very quiet, non rowdy, non joking newbs. Combine that with the quickest pub quiz in history and a tough quiz, and it makes for a night that just lays in your stomach like a pound of Osso Bucco.  Or is that oxtail? Regardless, tonight’s quiz was fun as Robert Wagoner, Emily Gibson and Jay Mackin from pdx.fm’s Morning Submission, as well as Michelle from Knit Happens, and a lot of other talented people from the station (that I only recognize with a twitter status next to their heads) all joined us to test their knowledge of meat.  They did pull out the best score on the “Where’s the beef” round in which they had to identify the cuts of meat on the actual cow picture and they should wear that badge with pride, to be sure. However, it was that brutal second round of By the Numbers that really pushed them out of the top three.  We had questions about all kinds of things no one knew the answers too.  In fact, in defense of the crew at pdx.fm, it was the lowest scoring round I have ever seen. Ever. In pub quiz history.  The scores at the end of the game were lower than most week’s scores after the second round.  Ouch!  Nonetheless, the two teams of talent from pdx.fm and pdx.am did turn up with some great prizes to share, including “Man Bait” t-shirts and  bacon lollipops.  Don’t miss out the rest of this week of MEAT when you’ll see Robert Wagoner co-hosting a round with Quizmaster Jpp at Spaceroom, and Emily Gibson at the Thirsty Lion with Jeremy!  Epic times indeed. They shall come to each venue bearing gifts for you little quizzers.  Don’t miss out.  And listen to Morning Submission tomorrow as they “Lick my bacon” on the air.  Starts at 8 a.m.  I know, I know, it’s early for bacon licking. You can download and listen later, at a more appropriate bacon licking time.

Join me and all the pdx.fm crew on Twitter-find me-@QMPolly -find them-@pdxsucks, @unibashradio, @egibsonaudio, @belladevil–always in the midst of some sort of antics. Or on my Facebook you can find them on Facebook too, they’re just a little more hidden in that mass of “Friends” I seem to be collecting.  Oh, 500, you’re just a few steps away, aren’t you?  And I think, 500 might call for a real celebration.  So, watch out.  Clues, antics, pictures too obscene for the blog-it’s all there online in my digital work of art I like to call “Why Polly will never work in a ‘real’ job again”
