Team “C Average,” long the corner-dwelling shadow monsters who only occasionally frequented my quizzes at the Belmont and Space Room, is on the fast track to winning over my cold, dark heart. How so, you ask? Well, they took a dump-truck full of shit from me on Thursday. And you know what happened next? They won.

In my defense, the reason for the abuse was really egregious. In the Who Am I Round, C Average came out guns-a-blazin trying to score 15 points by answering after the first clue, which was:

I was born in 1923 in West Virginia to a poor farming couple. I enlisted in the Army before the start of World War II. I wanted to become a pilot, but because of my humble background and lack of a college degree, that just wasn’t possible at the time.

Their answer? You guessed it — they answered George Bush. Not that rough-riding devil that I pictured at the top of this post, however. They meant his badass dad. You remember, this guy:

All things considered, C Average cleaned up on the night. They performed best in the Bingo Round, earning them a pitcher of the finest domestic on me, they kicked ass in Round 2 (despite the Bush league answer), rocked the handouts, and eventually took home the big first place finish. But the big question on Quizzers minds is how did the C Average upset factor into the BELMONT STEAK STANDINGS? Well, don’t let C Average’s spot in the standings fool you about their abilities — these guys have only been playing have the season. They’ve got their eyes on NEXT season’s prize. They’re calling this “Spring Training.” And with just THREE WEEKS TO GO after this week’s quiz, it’s certainly going to come down to the wire. The Monkeys are looking over their shoulders — they’ve been in this position before. And Beige Food just ordered up some of Monty Burns’ Brain Juice for the final stretch…
