Don’t Hand Me No Lines

…And keep your hands to yourself. That was a phrase I had to keep telling these quizzers at Sellwood Public House yesterday. Polly failed to warn me that they can get so attached.

Overly affectionate quizzers aside, the Sellwood House was a blast! I’m glad to see that at least ONE team knew about FreeJack (which would be team ‘Wyld Stallyns’). And despite the rantings of one crazed bartender, most of the people liked Alec Baldwin’s version of The Shadow. These are qualities I look for in a quiz venue.

The contest, however, was a series of ups and downs like nothing I’ve ever seen at Pub Quiz. At the start it would seem that team ‘Cattle Prodigy’ would cruise through the competition and take an easy victory, but the second round had something to say about that. After quizlinks had its way with the crowd, ‘Pork Chop Express’ and ‘Sharkey’ usurped ‘Cattle Prodigy’ for the lead and seemed to feel quite confident that their lead would hold. It did, but not because of any sort skill or luck. The ‘Wyld Stallyns’ murdered the movie time handout with a perfect score (again, the only ones who knew about FreeJackI) and would’ve taken third place had it not been for the dreaded inventions handout. Let’s just say we hope that never comes around again.

It came down to ‘Cattle Prodigy’, ‘Pork Chop Express’, and ‘Sharkey’ for the final question with ‘PCE’ choosing the category. They apparently knew our good friend Hiro Nakamura very well and were pretty confident that they did, wagering a ton of points and nailing the answer. ‘Sharkey’ took home second place due to some well thought out wagering and ‘Cattle Prodigy’ apparently doesn’t know about the show Heroes. Oh well, better luck next time. I’ll see you …IN the future!!
