There’s nothing worse than ending a night of hard-fought Pub Quizzing by having your dreams dashed by not knowing the Challenge Round question… in a category that you SHOULD know the answer to… on a topic you’re the #1 SUPER FAN of… with a question that 6 days a week you WOULD KNOW OTHERWISE. It’s a terrible way to end things… like how they ended the X-Files with the characters John Doggett and Monica… Monica… DAMN IT! WHAT’S HER LAST NAME!
That’s how it went for the top five teams in the Challenge Round last night at The Belmont Inn. Reigning Belmont Steak Champs, Beige Food didn’t make the Final Round, but maybe that’s just as well, because no one got the darned last question right. So it came down to the wagers, and in order from first to worst, here’s how it went down: Sirens of Titan, This Was No Boating Accident, Team YMBP (who almost left, thinking they didn’t win any cash), Paranormal Monkeys, and the Squirrels.
It was a great, big crowd at the Belmont, and I busted out a new location for the Quizmaster’s table which was a booming success. Four out of 5 quizzers preferred the new layout over competing layouts, and it resulted in 60 percent fewer repeat requests. This means more questions, faster quizzes, bigger crowds and richer pots!
