Ah, what a great time at Shanahan’s last night — you know you’re starting the night off right when you’re getting a Charlie Sheen question. Okay, it was more of a Two and a Half Men question, but still, a great night nonetheless.

And what makes Shanahan’s so fun isn’t that we’ve got this huge room all to ourselves, with a projector showing the games behind me, or the great (if not truly tempermental and a little evil) soundsystem. It’s the loyal teams that keep coming back week after week — and now, it seems, they’re bringing friends!

Case in point: Tonight’s winning team, the Grokstars. This squad started out when Mari happened upon Shanahan’s one night for a bite to eat, heard the commotion in the back, and decided to give it a look. She’s been coming back week after week, bringing more new people with her each time. This crew has also hooked up with the Quizmaster JPP Fan Page on Facebook, and as of this week they’ve become too big for one team — so they formed another called Burning Bettie.

Mari, meanwhile, moved from Grokstar to Burning Bettie, and — whattaya know!? — this is the week that the Grokstars took first place! The cool thing was that the Burning Betties were happy for their friends, even though they were competitors. But I’ve got to ask, Mari — are you regretting joining up with the newbies this week?

The Dumbling Strunks, almost always the bridesmaid, wagered wisely (and boldly, by RUNNING the wrong answer — and they knew it was wrong — to the Challenge Round up to me) for second place, and the “ALL-OR-NOTHING!!!!” (their capitals, not mine) Team Shanahan, pulled up in third place, with zero points. No guts, no glory, right guys?

Streakie Points were out in full effect last night, for those of you who play that part of the game, but it had no effect on the Challenge Round — this week, that is.
