Every superhero worth his salt has a sidekick: Batman has Robin, He-Man has Orco, Scooby-do has Scrappy-do, and Fred Flintstone had the Great Gazoo (above… and I guess he had Barney too, but Rubble was more of a neighbor than a sidekick).
Okay, maybe they’re not all superheroes, but then again, neither am I. But I do have a sidekick when I make my weekly visit to the Space Room — it’s Chez James, the man behind the grill. First off, he slings some really tasty grub — the man moved to Portland to attend culinary school, after all. In fact, Space Room might have some of the most under-rated food out there.
And if the orders die down, the man pops out from behind the grill to do some scoring. He likes to grade the handouts, because while he can hear all the questions from the kitchen, but he can’t work on the handouts while whipping up quesadillas. And last night, wine and cheese night, was James’s moment to shine — or rather to correct my poor annunciation in front of everyone.
BRA — what does that look like to you? Well, it looks like BRA, as in brazier to me, not BREE, which apparently is how it’s pronounced. James let me know that — in front of all y’all — and then had the nerve to keep his comments to himself after that! He wouldn’t help me pronounce any of the wine or cheese … I sure hope I got the rest right.
Speaking of getting everything right, everything came up “No Future” last night. They almost got perfect score in the first round, they landed the Bingo Bonus, they maxed out on Facebook Bonuses and won our Cheesiest Movie contest as well! While it was not a forgone conclusion — second place “Laird Cregar” and third place “Spoonful of Cheese Whiz” put up great fights — “No Future” ended up taking the top prize at the end of the night.
Quizmaster Polly and I were going back-and-forth with some quizzees at the end of the night, and we were both amazed with one of the Bingo Round questions: “A homonym for the title of this Academy-Award winning movie can be made by combining two different sounds made by asses?” I’m going to go as far and say it will be the question of the year.
But I won’t give the answer here. Hit up my the Quizmaster JPP on Facebook, and you’ll find it there.
Space Room Standings will also be updated next week, when there’s actually scores to share (that’ll make three weeks of play in this 12 week season). In the meantime, be well, play hard, and try to remember everything you can.
