A fun new game went into effect last night at Shanahan’s in Vancouver — The Shanahan’s Streakies! Here’s how it works:
1. Teams get 5 bonus points (called Streaky Points) for each consecutive week they play. So, once you’ve played two weeks in a row, you’ll have amassed 10 points!
2. Streaky Points can be played to vault a team into the Challenge Round.
3. Streaky Points do NOT bounce another team out of the Challenge Round. In fact, when you do use your points, no matter how many you have, your new score will only be enough to TIE you with the lowest team eligible for the Challenge Round.
4. Streaky Points can be collected week to week, but when they are played, they are played all at once. In other words, no partial usage.
5. If you miss a week, your Streaky Points are lost.
6. Any number of players may play each week. So, if your team of 6 players can’t make it, only one person needs to come to continue to amass Streaky Points. Basically, you must represent.
7. Teams must use the same name (or some obvious variation of it) to amass Streaky Points.
8. No, you cannot play 5 Streaky Points the first week of a streak. One quiz does not a streak make. Nice try, buddy.
9. Quizmaster JPP will post the amount of Streaky Points amassed by teams each week, right here on the Pub Quiz USA Blog.
So, for example, let’s say these are the scores heading into the Challenge Round:
1. Team Awesome — 294
2. Team Pretty Good — 290
3. Team Alright — 260
4. Team Meh — 250
But what’s that? Team Meh has 15 Streaky Points? Well, if they play their points, they’ll have 265 points, and have inserted themselves into the Challenge Round! But, since the points only allow Team Meh to TIE with the lowest Challenge Round contender, Team Meh will use all 15 points, but still only have a score of 260 in the Challenge Round.
So come on down to Shanahan’s and keep coming every week. And in the meantime, be well, play hard, and try to remember everything you can.
**NOTE: The streaker in the photo above is being tackled for violating the Pub Quiz Rules. You cannot use your phone while playing Pub Quiz.
I *might* consider an exception if that cell phone user was indeed streaking at a quiz.
