Let me begin by saying I have nothing against the French. They make great fries, salad dressings, bread, and toast. Wow, have you ever HAD their toast!? And sure, they’ve probably contributed a lot more to world culture than just food that has little-or-no-relation to their nationality, but I wouldn’t know much about that because I hate French, the language, far too much to learn more about them.

Last night at Shanahan’s it was a Wine and Cheese (and Cheesy Movies) themed quiz, and any of the dozens of quizzers in attendance will tell you exactly how much I hate French. Every word, EVERY. SINGLE. FRENCH. WORD, I managed to murder (except, oddly, for cabernet sauvignon, which I banged out like I was Inspector Clouseau). I think, after this week, I might have to amend my forbidden questions list. Right now the topics include:

1. Any question where The New York Yankees is the correct answer.
2. Questions about pedophilia or necrophilia.
3. Questions about quotes from the movie “Top Gun”

Anywho, it was a great night at Shanahan’s regardless. The crowds came back after the holiday layover and Snowmageddon. “Boone’s and Velveeta” (pictured below) pulled off a shocker, besting “The Night Man Cometh” and “Stumbling Winos” for first place and a nicely sized pile of cash.
