As many of you know, tonight is a rare occurrence — the New Year Blue Moon — but an equally rare feat happened last night at the Space Room: We had 5 teams in the Challenge Round!
Now don’t let the above statement fool you. We always have a good sized crowd in the cosmic quiz hall that is Space Room’s Brite Spot Lounge. But space, ironically, is also an issue in this venue, and we can only accommodate 60 quizzers, max. But we usually have between 30 and 40 people, which means only 3 teams make it into the Final Round. (You need 50 players to expand the Final Round into five teams.)
“Dracula Tree Forest” vaulted ahead early, systematically dismantling the first round and scoring the Bingo Bonus, to boot! Space Room fixtures “No Future” and “Spoonful of Grease Paint” were hot on their tails, with infrequent quizzers “Sparging the Mash” and reigning Space Room Saucer Champs “Clarification Please?” also cracking the top five. It was a topsy-turvey night, with other squads interloping into contention, but ultimately it was “Sparging” who took home the top prize, answering the challenge round question correctly and earning the most points. “No Future” also got the final question, which was about Samuel Beckett’s “Waiting for Godot” (pictured above), correct — and they came in second place. “Spoonful” landed the third spot by making the bold “ZERO” point wager.
Space Room Saucer Standings will be updated in a couple weeks, you know, when there are actual numbers to be added together.
