“More Cowbell” has been on top for weeks, but their lead has slowly been leaking, and last night, with their hard fought victory, “Spoonful of Spittoon Juice” surged ahead to tie for the top slot. They did it on the strength of their handouts and their knowledge of those OTHER cowboys — the Dallas ones — so let that be a lesson to you all: don’t neglect the handouts. They make a big difference come time to break into the Challenge Round.

Here’s how it went down: “Clarification Please?” ran the show most of the night, walking in wearing all manor of cowboy gear and scoring the max 18 bonus points. Their Bingo Round was good, and their A-Z was equally strong. But they slipped on the matching handout, and that’s where “Spoonful” made their move. “Spoonful” chose the Challenge Round category of Cowboys and Pigskin, and had they not been in the lead after four rounds, another team might’ve chosen the other Challenge Round category of “Cowboys in Anime.” Does “Spoonful” know their anime? We don’t know, and we won’t need to know, because they were the only team to get the Challenge Round right, besting “Clarification” and the other top Saucer squad, “More Cowbell.”

Now don’t put “No Future” down as an also-ran. They are still in the hunt for the honor of Most Victorious Quizzers. Two weeks remain in this season before the first day of Winter means we start all over again. It’s a fight to the finish — who will win the Space Room Saucer!?
