Questions Fly in the ‘Couv! (Shanahan’s Irish Pub)

St. John Patricks Day at Shanahans

St. John Patrick's Day at Shanahan's

People of Pub Quiz — if you weren’t at Shanahan’s last night, you missed a historic event! Our first ever Pub Quiz in Vancouver was a riotous success, full of prizes, gift certificates, rounds and rounds and rounds of sweet glorious booze, and — oh yeah — vidya games.

First off, while Shanahan’s owners Dave and Nate would like to thank everyone for coming out, I’d like to thank them for pouring their muscle into this pub. They bought the place a scant 18 months ago, and look at the magic they’ve pulled off:

BEFORE:

AFTER!!!!!:

This place is great. It’s far and away the friendliest neighborhood pub I’ve been to in a while, and a great venue for Pub Quiz. Consider these features:

• A full room dedicated to Pub Quizzing
• A full bar with one of the best pulls of Guinness I’ve had on the west coast
• A pool table and electronic dart board right in the middle of our playing area. Now you can game even when you’re gaming.
• And the coup de grace: an HD projection screen showing whatever game you want, blasted onto the wall behind me. That means no more wandering eyeballs during the big plays — all your action is in one direction.

Quizzees, not only is this a great venue, but the owners are pulling out all the stops to get you guys to try it out. Last night, every team walked out with gift cards good for next week and beyond — so come check it out for yourself and maybe you’ll be as lucky as our historic participants.

Speaking of, despite all the giveaways, it was a mighty battle. The owners ponied up to the Pub Quiz themselves, paying to play and dominating the competition through the Bingo Round. But ‘Don of the Dead’ bounced back to take the lead going into the Challenge Round. They eventually bested ‘Team Shanahan,’ but I’d be remiss if I didn’t point out our third place team, ‘Teamless’ managed to garner top honors despite being manned by JUST ONE MAN!

Come on back next Tuesday and every Tuesday to Shanahans. I’m looking forward to being there every week and seeing you there too.
