Although it may have been hard to hear “Zero G Spots” win big at the Gypsy last night, the rest of the pale blue dot could probably have heard the biggest Tuesday night crowd yet.

The Quiz was one of the most epic battles this side of the Peloponnesian war. Four teams dueling to an intellectual death… Well, it may be a stretch, but I don’t know that the word “Epic-ish” is classy enough to describe last nights events. “Zero G Spots” ran away with the first place spot, with a ridiculous lead of over 175 points. Second place fell into a dead tie between “Team We still use Mapquest.com” and “Team Wolverine” (Last weeks winners), who both waged it all in the final round only to both narrowly miss the right answer.

As Samuel L. Jackson said in Jurassic Park – “Hold on to your butts”.

In a stunning tie breaker round, it was “Team Wolverine” who managed to pull ahead to claim the second place prize. It was a Sagan-esque mind explosion.

The most exciting moment in my young Quizmastering career is the chance to award the “Gypsy Pub Quiz Championship Belt” to the winning team. The belt itself may be a modest piece of off-white paper with the words “I am the Gypsy Grand Champion” scrawled across it in my own chicken scratch handwriting, but it has become one of the most sought after pieces of treasure since the Holy Grail. Each week the winning team receives the belt which is good for FIVE BONUS POINTS (it might be apt to use OMG right now, but I wont. I’m not that hip) to be used the following week in their title defense.

I don’t know a better word to describe it than the word – AWESOMETASTIC.

If you feel like you can dethrone team Zero G Spot, bring your A game to the Gypsy next Tuesday at 8pm. Be there or be a Rhombus.
