Last night was clearly a night of tied scores. Throughout the game there were ties all over the board. Going into the final round, there was a tie for second, almost a tie for third, and a tie for – uh – last. But what might have been nerve-wracking for pubquizzers was really exciting to observe. But then the final question was easy and everybody got it right; first place stayed in first and second place stayed in second. Sigh. Such a terrible let down after the dramatic conclusion at Biddy’s on Tuesday.
In any case, congrats to Team Awesome for taking first and to Manah Mana for taking second (I swear I’ll say it right next week!).
Speaking of dramatic conclusions (terrible segueway alert), here is my second set of fairy tale recommendations:
Two Icelandic, epic sagas – sure to delight those of you who were trying to pass off the Odyssey as a fairy tale – Njal’s Saga and Laxdaela Saga. Both are available through Penguin Books, and are reminiscent of the King Arthur legends.
And finally, a personal favorite, Oscar Wilde’s A House of Pomegranates and The Happy Prince and Other Tales. These two collections are phenomenal! A House of Pomegranates is a little more grown up (Not ADULT, just more refined) while the work in The Happy Prince are often anthologized in other children’s collections.
Cheers,
Leandra
