Missin’ the Disney Afternoon

Woo-ee ride me high it was kind of a wild one tonight at the Belmont Inn. 81 peeps in the house vying for a nice lil’ pot of 243 smackers. Not too shabby! The Cartoon-themed quiz selected by you beautiful, sexy pub quizzers delivered on pretty much all accounts and we had an exciting final round with newish team Threat Level Midnight takin’ the top prize! Felt my man-parts shrink up into my intestinal tract when it was revealed the final question answer was a misprint, but we sorted it all out, the results weren’t changed, and the ever-lovable Silver Snakes still took their deserved second prize, with the tough-but-still-lovable Tx takin’ third. Kudos all around on one of the more exciting quizzes I’ve hosted in some time.

A few teams took multiple copies of the forms tonight, and that came back to haunt us when we ran out and had to run to ol’ Zupan’s to make copies (one of each form, teams… one of each. Say it with me: “One of each, one of each one of each…” And all will be right in the world.) Executive Assistant Renee, as she is wont to have, had the brilliant idea to use one handout to block off the answers on another, and then make copies, thereby “resetting” the form and thereby allowing the teams denied their handouts to still fill them out without seeing someone else’s answers. Problem was, stupid, dumber-than-Renee Quizmaster Justin left the two filled-out team handouts IN the copier (stop me if I’m not making an ounce of sense… oh wait, you can’t. Oh well, just go drink another alcoholic beverage as I am currently doing… … aah, that’s nice, anyway!), where they sat for an hour and a half until we were grading the handouts and realized we were two handouts short. That was when Renee turned on her rocket burners, zipped over to Zupan’s, procured the two sheets from the copier (I’m pretty sure I’m the only one who has ever used the Zupan’s copier, thank god), and brought them back, saving my ass yet again, for the second time in one evening. Best. Assistant. Ever.

I love me some cartoons and enjoyed this quiz, though I was chagrined to see not one–NOT ONE!–question involving Ducktales, Chip and Dale’s Rescue Rangers, or any other classic show from the Disney Afternoon set. What gives!? You just can’t have a cartoon-themed quiz without mentioning at least one of those amazing series, which I watched religiously every day after school, thereby seeing every episode of every series at least half a dozen times. Their theme songs are forever burned into my mind, joining the beer-killed brain cells to form a nice, brown stain of television and alcohol residue. Mmmm MM!

What’s weird about those Disney Afternoon cartoons is that I watched them religiously into my high school years, like all the way through my senior year. Maybe I shouldn’t admit to that, but I think it’s interesting they kept my interest for so long, into a relatively advanced age. I’ll tell ya Family Matters and Saved By the Bell sure didn’t achieve that feat. That Disney Afternoon was some sophisticated shit, yo!

All hail Huey Dewey and Louie!

I am late reading this, but better late than never. I LOVED Chip and Dale’s cartoons as well! Wow, something new to bond over. I really wanted to live in that tree with them, snacks on berries and such. Alas, I must continue my life as a multidimensional human. Sigh.
