Welcome to sunny Portland, Ariz., where the current temperature is ‘molten.’ But that didn’t stop the lovely Pub Quiz patrons from frequenting the Space Room on Wednesday night. In fact, I’d argue that the Space Room is the best place to be when the sun burns away all the oxygen in our planet — because the drinks are stiff and the food is delectable!

And, it was a topsy-turvey Pub Quiz at the ol’ outerspacepost, to boot! Linoleum Loafers dominated the first two rounds, shredding up questions like no one’s business. But in the end, they couldn’t hack the handouts, and actually dropped from first to fourth by the challenge round.

Intense heat had shut down much of Hawthorne for the day, so it was no surprise that we only had three teams in the Challenge Round. Nuts and Gum Together Again walked out of there in third place with no cash, but alas, much bragging rights. Felony Cheddar, a boisterous crew who knows their booze (questions and drinking) walked out with the second place prize, and Chocolatety Booze Bottles vaulted ahead on the handouts to not only become the point leaders after four rounds, but tonight’s ultimate victor.

Now for your dose of hot, hot, irony. I offered the teams the opportunity to play ‘winner takes all’ because the pot wasn’t as big as it usually is. It had to be a unanimous decision though. And who dissented? That’s right, it was the boys of Chocolatety Booze. Too bad fellas, maybe next time you’ll take home the entire enchilada…. Until then…

Oh, wait… one last thing. Team Cupcake came in last. But to be fair, they OWNED last place. They were the best last place team at the Space Room tonight — by FAR. Maybe the greatest last place team ever. But only time will tell…
