Seriously, F’in HOT!!! I don’t know why freon hates me… maybe it was that fridge I blew up with a pipe bomb back in the day… or the window a/c I didn’t secure well enough on the 15th floor in that apartment building…(Yeah, I got lucky there) but for whatever reason, the magic coolant gods are trying to smite me. First Monday at Roscoe’s and then last night at the Thirsty Lion.

I don’t have to tell you how hot it was down at The Thirsty Lion last night if you were there… you know… and I’m grateful for each and every one of you who stayed through it, broken A/c and all!! Cheers!!!

It was a great night to be there though, because we sure had a knock down drag out battle going on for the Thirsty Lion Widmer Pub Quiz Cup!! ‘The Everlasting Gobstoppers’, our current cup holders, had a mere two point lead going into the final week over young upstarts ‘The Rural Jurors’ and with ‘I’m With Stupid’ and ‘We’re # 4′ needing some serious skill and perhaps a bit of luck to take home The Fist of Knowledge it was going to be something to remember. We even had Quizmaster’s Polly and Leandra stop in to check out the final battle… it was great to see you guys!!

Through the first two rounds, it looked as if ‘The Rural Jurors’ might just pull off the upset as they were in the top two after two. But the champs showed why they are champs, as they stormed back in the handout rounds. Going into the final round, we had ‘No Clue’ making a statement themselves in first place, with the champs ‘The Everlasting Gobstoppers’ just behind them in second… and as I read down the teams going into the final round it wasn’t until the very last team did I read off our second place team ‘The Rural Jurors’. So they made it into the final round… it was all going to come down to one question.

‘No Clue’ was the only team to get the final question correct which meant that they took first place last night… Well Played Guys!! You definitely showed that anyone can win on any night down at the Lion! It also meant that it came down to the wagers on the final question for the ‘Fist of Knowledge’ .

And in the end the Champs proved it all over again that they ARE and have been the best team at The Thirsty Lion for not only the past two months… but the past FOUR!!! And here I have to give ‘The Everlasting Gobstoppers’ mad props. I gave them some shit last week… which I still think was justified by the way… Hahaha!! But they truly deserve to get the fame and noteriety and all of the benefits which come along with ‘The Fist fo Knowledge’. They have been great champs and have maintained a level of performance that no one has equaled… so you get a solemn and respectful ‘Well Played!’ from me… you have made the Thirsty Lion your Pub Quiz Bitch for the last four months!

All of this means that next week after we award ‘The Everlasting Gobstoppers’ their Widmer Cup Prizes and get their name once again etched onto ‘The Fist of Knowledge’, we will wipe off the Widmer Leader Board and start our next round of the Thirsty Lion Widmer Pub Quiz Cup… The Gobstoppers are getting $50 gift certificates for each member of their team to the Widmer Bros. Gasthaus… I can’t wait to see what our prizes are going to be next time!!
