What better place to celebrate the moonwalk — both of them — than the Space Room. That’s right, 40 years ago this week, man walked on the moon and an eleven-year-old Michael Jackson was recording his first album with the Jackson Five. A crowd of 9 teams packed the friendly confines of the Space Room’s dining annex.
Linoleum Loafers dominated the whole night through, landing the top scores in all but one round (damn that compound element handout!) and taking whole the top prize by going full-Clavin. The secret to their success? “We studied our asses off,” they later told me. Moonwalk Turns 40 also put up a heck of a score, but their extensive knowledge of all things Jackson just didn’t measure up in the end, as they took home second place. The Cowboys walked out in third place, scoring a whopping ZERO (but hey, they went full-Clavin too, just didn’t know the Challenge round answer).
But the highlight of the night was the Singing Bonus. Dave from Felony Cheddar led off with some staggering vocals. The room damn near melted. Then, Erin from Linoleum took the mic and and got the room clapping along to the beat of the Free Willy theme. That’s right — the Free Willy theme. Now there’s some Quizzary for you!
But the highlight of the night was the Thriller danceoff, put on by Team Cupcake. Let me put this into perspective: one cupcake had ripped her ankle to shreds playing volleyball over the weekend, yet she still mustered up the gusto to break out a moonwalk. Why? Well because zombies — real Thriller zombies — never give up, and Cupcakes never say die!
Well played everyone. I can’t wait to see what kind of a scene pops up next week.
