Zombie Literature!

A short list of zombie books I’ve read.  My tastes lean towards realistic, survival horror.  I love a character to figure out a way to escape the city when the shit hits the fan, for example.

Dead City by Joe McKinney: Right up my alley, story wise.  A simple story about a cop who is there from the beginning of the zombie apocalypse.  The writing is the weak point – he’s a newish author from what I remember, but the story is fun.

World War Z by Max Brooks: By the guy who wrote The Zombie Survival Guide.  Max Brooks took one idea and ran with it: It’s possible, however goofy, that small zombie outbreaks have been happening for centuries!  They are less about one single cohesive story following characters, and more about the idea that zombie outbreaks have  been happening for awhile, and are either stomped out before it can spread, or covered up by whatever powers that be.  The most interesting thing about both these books is their plausibility.

Monster Island by David Wellington:  I have mixed feelings about this one.  The characters are fairly interesting, but it goes way past any practicality into really fantastic ideas.  Mummies that think and are allies to humans, undead that have weird magical powers, etc.  It was too much for me, but the writing isn’t bad if you want to check out a fantasy/zombie hybrid.

I’ve read many more, but can’t remember them all, because it’s late.  :)  I’ve never found what I would call the Great American (Zombie) Novel, which is a funny idea in itself.  Someday, if I can’t find it, maybe I’ll just write the darn thing.  Heh.

But on to the quiz!  Congratulations to You’re Gonna Need a Bigger Boat!

Whoa, just noticed there’s some interesting lighting going on there in the background.

They weren’t first place in round 1, but they were by the Final Round!  They bet big and got the question correct, which is what we call First Place Cashy Cash!  Just kidding, nobody calls it that.

In second place, team Sobchak Security, which third place going to This is Thriller, which I believe is a relatively new team (well done!).

Until next week peeps!  I’m done writing your eyes off (if you follow me), so I shall see y’all next week!
